Progress Report

High School Libraries in Nova Scotia

Group #1 Members:
Pam Eakin, Suzanne Hayes, Margaret Kelly, Mitchell McNally, Jen Chase

Group Structure:
The roles we have decided on for our group are:
• Leader: Suzanne
• Secretaries: Jen & Margaret
• Tech: Jen
• Researcher: Pam, Margaret, Suzanne, Mitchell, & Jen
• Writer: Pam, Margaret, Suzanne, Mitchell, & Jen
• Evaluator: Pam

Leader: initiates the discussion of each part of the assignment, and keeps the group reminded of due dates and requirements of assignments

Secretary: compiles research/information for presentation; proof-reader

Tech: creates the blog presentation, is responsible for posting presentation on the Web Board, deals with any other technical issues the group encounters

Researcher: researches the topic

Writer: writes about topic, provides this information/data to the assigned secretary

Evaluator: determines whether the group is on target and meeting their goals for the project

Our group understands that the duties associated with each role are likely to change throughout the project, but this is how we see our roles playing out at this point in the planning process.

Communication:
The group has been communicating by e-mail so far - several times a week - and we have chosen this as the main method of communication we will be using throughout the project. We have also discussed providing our telephone numbers (for a back-up to e-mail communication), as well as providing our schedules on a weekly basis, to keep everyone informed of our availability.

Research Plan:
We have divided the topics evenly between the members of the group, with each member researching and writing on one topic:

• Teaching personnel: Mitchell
• Integrated library instruction: Margaret
• Program and services development: Jen
• Physical and intellectual services: Pam
• Collections development and management: Suzanne

The research plans for our group include searching the internet - using Google and other search engines - to find relevant information and websites; using the databases available through the NSCC website and Infotrac; and visiting libraries to conduct on-site research. Some members will also be speaking with a person who is currently working in a school library as part of their research.

Presentation of Report:
Through e-mail discussion, the group has decided that we will create a blog presentation, to be posted as a link to the Web Board.
